“My industry sector is manufacturing, heavy engineering. The amazing thing about these conversations shown to us by Lee at Bruche Associates is that they can be applied at work, home, shops, with kids, in the street, on holiday etc. The only limitations are our own personal limitations which are typically a lack of confidence, stepping outside our comfort zone and/or choosing not to get involved for whatever reason.
The key steps Bruche Associates introduced us to, have significantly helped with:
1. Stopping and positively engaging with our colleagues
2. Always to see a positive side in a way that does not ignore safety concerns
3. Take an interest in anybody’s job. What they can tell you sometimes opens your eyes and mind beyond your expectation.
4. Creating dialog and conversation with others – getting past that old chestnut, ‘I’ve been doing it this way for years’ and yet avoid spoon feeding them. The differences we have seen in the person recognising the hazards of the job and to actually say the words themselves has made some of the biggest differences in our safety culture and observable behaviours of our colleagues.
One of the many things I have taken from the Behavioural Training and Coaching is quite simple really, ‘go out there and catch somebody doing something right, then say thank you’.”
