Level 3 – Award in Paediatric First Aid
This qualification is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies on a professional level. The purpose of the qualification is for the learner to attain the knowledge and practical competence required to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations. This two-day qualification fulfils the requirements for first aid training detailed in the Department for Education’s statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.
This qualification is made up of two units and in order to attain the full award you must achieve success in both units. However, should you only need one unit, then this can be recognised and accredited accordingly. This Level 3 course satisfies the guidelines and criteria as defined by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and OFSTED.
More importantly, you will be gaining knowledge and competence to administer first aid and basic life support – an extremely valuable skill to have – for you, your employer as well as friends and family.
Unit 1 and 2 Syllabus: • Role of the Paediatric First Aider • Primary survey • Resuscitation (CPR including the safe use of an AED) • Seizure • Choking • Wounds, bleeding and shock • Minor injuries • Recovery position • Fractures • Head, neck and back injuries • Foreign bodies • Diabetic emergencies • Asthma • Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis • Meningitis • Febrile convulsions • Extreme cold and heat • Electrical incidents

Anaphylaxis training
Anaphylaxis is a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that can develop rapidly and this qualification provides the knowledge and skills to promptly recognise and manage a casualty with anaphylaxis until emergency medical assistance arrives.
