Insect stings and bites are common at this time of year both in and outside of workplaces.
Recognition

- Redness and swelling of the skin around the sting
Treatment
Aims: To relieve swelling and pain and arrange removal to hospital if necessary
- Reassure the casualty. If the sting is visible, brush or scape it off sideways with the edge of a credit card or your fingernail. Do not use tweezers
- Raise the affected part and apply a cold compress to minimise swelling.
- Keep the compress in place for at least 10 minutes.
- If pain and swelling persists tell the casualty to seek medical advice.
- Monitor vital signs and watch for signs of an allergic reaction
